The need for decent and affordable housing is a worldwide challenge, and Habitat for Humanity is a global partnership response. Habitat for Humanity commits to providing significant financial support of house-building efforts in other countries through participating in the affiliate tithe program.
How does Starke/Pulaski Habitat work? Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent homes with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat homes are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat homes. Building a Habitat home in our local community does more than just put a roof over one family’s head…Habitat provides: Stability for children Gives the family a sense of dignity and pride Family members health, physical safety and security improve Good housing attracts economic investment and development Starke & Pulaski Counties have a local Habitat for Humanity affiliate that works within the boundaries of the combined two counties. While this organization is small, it has completed four new homes for four families who otherwise may not have had the chance to own their own home. HABITAT NEEDS MANY VOLUNTEERS TO TACKLE IT’S MISSION. “Volunteers” are the backbone of the whole organization. The number of houses that can be built each year depends on donations and contributions received. Volunteers provide the means to use the donations in constructing a decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable home for the partner family. Even things as simple as sweeping a floor with a broom are part of the multitude of tasks that produce a completed Home-Sweet-Home for a deserving family.
